Part of the technology used in the development of autonomous automobiles has been adapted to other products. One of them, was an innovative suitcase designed especially to help travelers deal with the luggageproblems.
The “robotic suitcase”from Travelmate, an emerging travel company based in California, presented at the ConsumerElectronics Show (CES) 2018 in Las Vegas. It can be controlled through a smartphone app and roll next to its owner at a speed of 11 kilometers per hour, avoiding obstacles. The company designed the device (which incorporates elements of artificial intelligence) to advance in an area around the user, or it can be directed with the smartphone application in the same way as a drone. It will be available in the US market in February, and then in Europe and Japan.
For its partthe Chinese company ForwardX, with base in California, competes with this offer and is developing a suitcase that can make facial recognition, without requiring the application of the smartphone. The ForwardX suitcase also has gesture control technology and can be immobilized to protect it from theft. The Chinese company expects to launch it half way through 2018.
