Apple will use their own chips on MAC computers

Apple plans to use its own chips on Mac computers as of 2020, replacing Intel processors. The initiative, whose code is called Kalamata, is still in the early stages of development, but is part of a broader strategy to make all Apple devices, including Macs, iphones, and iPads, work in a more similar and integrated way, They said the sources, who asked not to be identified because the information is private.

The change would be a coup for Intel. Apple provides Intel with approximately 5 percent of its annual revenues, according to Bloomberg’s supply chain analysis.

For Apple, change would be a decisive moment. Intel’s chips remain some of the only major components designed by others within the Apple product portfolio. Currently, all iphones, iPads, Apple Watches and Apple TV use Apple-designed processors based on ARM Holdings technology.

Moving on to your own chips would allow Apple to launch new models with their own schedules, rather than trusting the Intel roadmap.
