First version of IoT Android Things was released by Google

Android Things 1.0, Google’s connected device framework could improve IoT security by ensuring critical updates while providing a unified software option for restricted device developers.

Google plans to make a complete implementation of Android Things 1.0, the variant of the Android operating system designed for IoT.

The idea behind things is to provide a unified and unique software option for device developers such as smart screens, kiosks and digital signage, among others. Device manufacturers will not be able to modify parts of the things code, specifically the parts that ensure that Google can update all devices running the software at any time.
